Mortality and Outcomes of Patients Infected with Extensively Drug-Resistant Bacteria Admitted to Intensive Care Units

چکیده
Background: The emergence of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens in intensive care units (ICU) makes treatment these infections very difficult. Objectives: This study aimed to survey the resistance phenotype, risk factors, and possible options for hospital-acquired (HAI) at ICUs a referral university hospital. Methods: Samples were prepared from ICU patients with HAIs. Pathogens isolated, prescribed antibiotics, mortality rate, associated clonal relationship isolates assessed. Results: From 100 admitted ICUs, 76 (76%) showed clinical symptoms most common sources infection lung secretions (51.8%). isolated bacteria Gram-negative (77, 90.6%) Gram-positive (9.4%). microorganism was Acinetobacter baumannii complex (63.5%). effective antimicrobials colistin (96.1%) linezolid (100%) isolates, respectively. An extensively drug-resistant (XDR) phenotype documented all A. baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens. XDR significant factor only mortality. had highest rate (66.6%) among isolates. While strains limited diversity, other species highly divergent. Conclusions: results revealed high especially adenosine triphosphate-binding cassette (ABC). genetic similarities ABC might be an indication neglecting control prevention. use cotrimoxazole instead carbapenems can promising reduction studied ICUs.

Association between Red Cell Distribution Width and Mortality in Pediatric Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Units
Background: Red cell distribution width (RDW) is a routine laboratory measure that could be used as a predictor of mortality in critically ill patients. Identification of patients at risk for mortality early in the course of PICU admission is an important step in improving the outcome. We aimed to assess the use of RDW as an early biomarker for outcome in pediatric critical illnesses. Methods:...

متن کاملMortality among patients admitted to strained intensive care units.
RATIONALE The aging population may strain intensive care unit (ICU) capacity and adversely affect patient outcomes. Existing fluctuations in demand for ICU care offer an opportunity to explore such relationships. OBJECTIVES To determine whether transient increases in ICU strain influence patient mortality, and to identify characteristics of ICUs that are resilient to surges in capacity strain...
متن کاملPrediction of mortality in patients admitted to intensive care units, A comparison of three data mining techniques: a brief report.
Background: Early outcome prediction of hospitalized patients is critical because the intensivists are constantly striving to improve patients' survival by taking effective medical decisions about ill patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs). Despite rapid progress in medical treatments and intensive care technology, the analysis of outcomes, including mortality prediction, has been a challenge ...
